The ODAS Center, in its mission to federate the safe abortion movement in French-speaking Africa, facilitated a workshop on “technical reflection between local organizations involved in safe abortion advocacy in Cameroon”. The meeting aimed to create and strengthen a synergy of action between these key civil society partners. The event provided an opportunity to share the experiences and expertise of the various players involved in advocacy in Cameroon. In addition, the meeting served to further connect partners to create a solid, united and supportive community that promotes the sharing of experiences, best practices and lessons learned, as well as the pooling of efforts and resources to foster collective interventions. Participants also identified needs for technical support, gaps in resources available for advocacy, as well as blocking points and challenges that the movement can support in Cameroon. At the end of the workshop, the organizations agreed to address the following issues: barriers related to health providers, such as misinformation, personal values and insufficient training on the issue of abortion; misinformation, myths, taboos, stigma and community discrimination surrounding the issue of abortion; and the lack of evidence.
